The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics will renew their battle for Eastern Conference supremacy on opening night of the 2012-13 NBA season, according to the schedule released Thursday.
The Heat will host the Celtics at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the Dallas Mavericks at the Los Angeles Lakers at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Both games will be televised by TNT. Also on Oct. 30, the Washington Wizards visit the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Nine more games are on the schedule for Oct. 31, including Jeremy Lin's debut in a Houston Rockets' uniform at Detroit.
Two games are set for Nov. 1 highlighted by the Brooklyn Nets' first home game in their new arena against the crosstown New York Knicks. Also on Nov. 1, the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of last year's Western Conference finals.
A dozen games are on the first Friday night of the season, including ESPN's opening doubleheader -- Miami at New York (8 p.m. ET), followed by the Los Angeles Clippers against the Lakers (10:30 p.m. ET).
The Christmas Day schedule features five games -- all on ESPN or ABC. Boston visits Brooklyn at noon ET on ESPN, followed by an ABC doubleheader -- New York at the Lakers (3 p.m. ET) and Oklahoma City at Miami (5:30 p.m. ET) in the first meeting of last year's Finals participants. Later, Houston visits Chicago (8 p.m. ET) and Denver is at the Clippers (10:30 p.m. ET) -- both games on ESPN.
Miami pays a return visit to Oklahoma City on Feb. 14.
In other notable games, Lakers free agent guard Steve Nash will play against his former Phoenix Suns teammates for the first time on Nov. 16 in Los Angeles; he'll play in Phoenix for the first time on Jan. 30. Lin and the Rockets visit New York on Dec. 17. Ray Allen, who left the Celtics for the Heat, returns to Boston on Jan. 27.
The regular season ends on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, with 15 games.
The 2013 playoffs begin three days later.
