Referring to a close-to-the-knuckle comment he once made about Twitter, when he said “too many Tweets make a t***,” Mr Cameron said: “I did once say something about people who use Twitter, particularly politicians, and I think in this case I was absolutely spot on. I think what he said was completely wrong, an idiotic thing to say."
“And, you know, it’s not about politics. We all celebrate our National Health Service, we all think James Bond is fantastic, we all revere the Queen.
“To bring together the Queen and James Bond in that opening sequence, when I was shown it about a year ago, it brought a tear to my eye I thought it was so good. And it was every bit as good in its execution as it was in its creation.”
Turning to the economy, he went on: “I’m absolutely convinced that Britain can be a success story – look what we’ve done with these Games.”
Earlier, Mr Cameron took a ride on the Bakerloo Line to see how London’s transport system was coping on the first day in which Olympic visitors were travelling with the capital’s commuters.
He told Sky: “I’ve just actually come on the tube myself to see what the traffic situation is like, not too bad, the Bakerloo line is going all right.
“Lots of challenges, we’ve got to overcome them one by one. I think everything at the moment is looking good.”
The Prime Minister also defended the need for the Olympic lanes on roads around London, and praised the transport authorities for their handling of the Games so far.
“That’s part of the deal – if you get to the Olympics, you have to have this Olympic Route Network,” he said. “It was because of things that went wrong at previous Olympics.
“Everyone in London knows this is a very special fortnight – it’s a bustling capital city, you can’t put on an Olympics here without some disruption, but I think the authorities are doing a pretty good job at keeping it to a minimum.”
