Not only has the shooting in Colorado shaken the town of Aurora to the core...
"I wanted to get a handgun permit."
But now, people across the nation aren't feeling quite as safe.
"Normally the sheriff's office processes between 15 and 20 firearm certificates a day, since the shooting in Aurora, Colorado last Friday, we've been doing 40, twice as much as we normally do", says Chief Deputy Marty Bilek with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
Chief Deputy Marty Bilek says a spike, is normal. After Von Maur and Virginia Tech, the same thing.
"So every time there's a violent incident involving gun fire in the U.S., it makes everybody feel unsafe."

"I would say in the past 2 to 3 days, we've probably had 75 to 100 inquiries."
Are as busy as ever.
People now, are wanting to learn how to use a gun safely, to better protect their family.
Shea Degan is a man with a gun, and a trained professional. He too knows tragic violence jolts many families into action.
"There are quite a few people out there who contemplate purchasing weapons and a lot of people procrastinate, and it's events like this that typically get them to act."
There's no doubt the theater shooting has many on edge.
"Mostly home safety is the biggest concern, we have 2 young daughters and it's gonna be important to keep a safe home."
It's about protecting your family from harm, but knowing how to use a firearm safely, has to come first.
