London 2012: Police arrest 'disabled' bike protester on Olympic launch day

The event, which regularly takes place in over 300 cities worldwide, is a pro-cycling mass bike ride which seeks to claim the streets of the capital for cyclists.

Participants had been told they were not permitted to enter any part of the Olympic Route Network, or Games Lanes, and must remain south of the River Thames.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A number of people in breach of regulations imposed on a monthly cycling event have been arrested."

The police said was conditions on the cycle ride had been put in place "to prevent serious disruption to the community and the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games".
