Red Cross Volunteer Helps in Aurora

CREATED 8:26 PM

"If I could do this every day I would."

Danelle Schlegelmilch has seen the tears, first hand in Aurora.

"We had people who were evacuated from being, living in the shooters building, so they had to get out because the apartment was booby trapped."

Danelle got the call Friday night, that she'd be flying out to help. Helping hundreds of people, terrified kids and families, who were forced to leave their home.

Holmes's apartment, filled with homemade explosives and jugs of bullets.

The families living at the complex, evacuated.

"And just a lot of people who were trying to cope with not only the tragedy that their city had just gone through but personally, like oh my gosh, my neighbor had bombs in this apartment."

Offering comfort and care as best she could, Danelle understood their suffering.

"It reminded me a lot of the Von Maur shooting, and I had a lot of friends that were in that, so, just brought back some memories of how every body was hurting."

She gave help the only way she knew how, giving hugs and wearing her vest, letting the people of Aurora know, the Red Cross is there to help.

"At the prayer vigil last night there were just strangers holding hands hugging crying, it was like such an emotional night to be a part of, and to have my Red Cross vest on it was good that people knew the Red Cross was there."

Seeing Omaha overcome its own tragedy, she knows Aurora will cope...

"It amazes me every time, no matter how much people go, through they still have hope."
