Now, no sniggering at the back. This handsome two-bedroom house has 2,000sq ft of internal space and is close to the beach at the bottom of, ahem, Spanker Street on Conanicut Island, some 80 miles south of Boston. The estate agent tells me a spanker is “a gaff rigged fore-and-aft sail” although that wasn’t the definition I came up with.
