Jaime King works a great day-to-evening look.

Model-turned-actress Jaime King appeared in my idea of the perfect day-to-evening dress earlier this week.
It's a look from Giambattista Valli's pre-fall 12 collection and it ticks a lot of my current What I Want From a Dress boxes: midi-length hemline, pleats, demure cut but interesting colour combination that lifts it above the ordinary. This is a dress that could see you not just through a meeting (a classy meeting, yes, and with people who appreciate a bit of style - let's not waste this garment) but onto drinks and dinner.
It's also an excellent choice for a late summer wedding. And I can imagine this would go down very well with all those fashionable ladies at Frieze, the contemporary art fair which comes up again in October. Worn with one of autumn's statement coats (see Céline and Chloé for the premium versions) it could have mileage well into the winter months. In fact, for the pre-fall look book Valli had this styled with polka dot black tights, underlining my point very neatly.
