ESPN.com news servicesDetroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril ended his holdout and reported to training camp Sunday morning.
Avril is undergoing a physical and if he passes, he plans to sign his $10.6 million franchise tender, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
"If ur heart is filled with faith then you can't fear"... back to work let's get it #WIN," Avril tweeted Sunday morning.
Ndamukong Suh also took to twitter to celebrate Avril's arrival in camp.
"It's good to have the Whole Dline in the building now! Welcome back Fam! @cliffavril #Gray," he tweeted.
Avril was hoping to be rewarded with a long-term contract for being a consistent playmaker for an improving team but he was unable to agree to a contract by the deadline in July for franchised players to agree to multiyear contracts.
He is the only NFL player with at least 19 1/2 sacks, nine deflected passes, seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries the previous two years.
When the Lions snapped their 11-season postseason drought last year, Avril had career highs with 11 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He has had 30 career sacks and 14 forced fumbles since 2008, when Detroit drafted him out of Purdue.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
