Hartland Shop In Lincoln Has Already Raised $600

Lincoln, NE - Customers to Hartland Tattoo in Lincoln marked their skin Sunday with a "NOH8" design.

"Three people very close to me are here and my mom is here," said customer Shanna Selph.

Selph, her mom and her friends are standing up against intolerance and saying no to inequality through art.

"It's our way of peacefully fighting back."

Selph drove all the way down to Lincoln from Omaha to get the "NOH8" tattoo on the back of her neck.  It's her way of helping Charlie Rogers publically known as Rainbow Jane.  Rogers told police three masked men broke into her home and carved homophobic slurs into her skin before trying to set her house on fire last month.  It's an incident that has Hartland Tattoo owner Adam Hart doing anything he can to help.

"A lot of people are always excited about their tattoos, but this has a really special meaning and a lot of people are really uniting behind this message," said Hart.

Using the proceeds they collect from their services, Hart and his co-workers have already raised more than $600 for Rogers.  Some of that money even coming from first-time customers looking to make a stand.

"I'm getting the 'NOH8' tattoo because it represents something bigger than myself," said customer Miquela Beacom.

Rogers will get ten dollars for every tattoo Hartland performs.  The benefit will continue through August 24th.
