Police Searching For Suspects, Leads
Omaha, NE - A man is dead after an early morning shooting near 30th and Laurel in North Omaha.
"It's crazy. It's out of control," said neighbor Milton Edwards.
Police made the discovery in the backyard of a vacant home and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Neighbors tell us it happened around 6:30 A.M. and that it sent more shockwaves throughout the community.
"A lot of hurt people, a lot of hurt families and I don't know when it's going to stop," said Edwards.
Edwards tells KMTV Action 3 News he's lived in the community for the past 14 years. This latest shooting death is a painful reminder of something he witnessed just eight short months ago.
"A little boy got killed down the street on Crown Pointe in front of my house."
Speaking with witnesses and neighbors, police are looking for any clues they can that will lead them to a suspect or suspects. It's a task they say will take time.
"At this point we're still early in the investigation, so for us to come out and identify a person or a motive would be premature at this point" said Officer Jake Bettin.
At the height of the investigation, police sealed off severeal blocks to traffic. For Edwards, it was a frustrating sight because he just wants an end to the violence that's taken a tight grip on his neighborhood for so long.
"There's a war going on with these young kids and I don't know what to say to them to make them stop because it's gotten so far out of hand."
The victim's name has not been released yet pending notification of the family. Police tell KMTV Action 3 News it might not come out until later Sunday night or Monday.
