Multiple activist reports state that a Syrian army jet was “shot down” over Al Muhassan, in the Deir Ezzor governorate, on the morning of August 13.
This video, which cannot be independently verified, was released shortly after the initial reports and purportedly shows the incident taking place.
Anti aircraft weapon-fire can be heard at the beginning on the video before the low-flying aircraft, clearly identifiable as a MiG-23, bursts into flames.
The downing of a warplane would be a rare event for lightly armed rebels faced with the superior weaponry of President Bashar al-Assad's forces.
