Omaha, NE - School districts across the Omaha area are getting ready for another school year, but for some kids the idea of facing their peers is too much to handle.
From the Governor of Iowa to corporate America there is a big push for students to stop bullying before it starts.
It happens every day.
Often quiet while kids are out of school, but the problem spikes as students return to classrooms and playgrounds.
"Bullying is obviously an issue within schools and within the society,” said parent Jennifer Farnham.
Organizations across the country are teaming with new ways to help protect kids once the first bell rings.
"It’s an initiative developed by Sears to connect bullying solutions with anyone impacted by bullying,” said Oak View Mall Sears Manager Kent Crouch. “To help victims, families, and communities as a whole.”
Sears started Team Up. It’s an imitative that provides resources, advice and solution options for students, victims, parents and schools who are coping with a bullying issue.
Also, it’s a place to pledge to not be a bully and protect against them.
The company is teaming up with the director of Bully, a documentary that featured extreme cases.
It followed a teen form Iowa who suffered relentless bullying.
"There are over 160 thousand students a day that are impacted by bullying,” said Crouch.
That’s why Iowa Governor Branstad will host the governor's "bullying prevention summit" this fall.
"I think it’s important not only for organizations to help out putting money towards that, but I think it needs to start out in the home,” said Farnham.
