Tropical storm Issac bears down on the Dominican Republic

The storm, which did not reach full force on the island threatened to ruin agricultural areas, one resident described the impact of the storm saying, "the wind has knocked down a lot of trees and has really damaged crops".

Winds of up to 65 miles per hour were recorded by the U.S. National Hurricane Center. Tropical storm Issac is predicted to reach hurricane status by Monday evening.

Haiti experienced 51 cms of rain in some areas, the island still has over 400,000 inhabitants living in makeshift tents.

As the storm progresses concerns grow that it may hit Tampa, Forida, where the Republican Party will be holding its convention.
