KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The major known as "Glory's Last Shot" turned into one last chance for Tiger Woods.

On the toughest scoring day in the PGA Championship since it switched to stroke play in 1958, Woods made putts from one end of Kiawah Island to the other Friday for a 1-under 71 that gave him a share of the lead with Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson entering the weekend.

Woods was tied for the lead at the midway point of the U.S. Open two months ago until he stumbled on the weekend at Olympic Club and tied for 21st. Each major, he looks closer to ending his longest drought in the majors.

In relentless gusts up to 30 mph on The Ocean Course, Singh had a remarkable 69, the low round on a day of survival. Pettersson shot 74.
