But does the film do justice to the visionary giant of the computer age?
"As creative departures go, Brave certainly lives up to its title," writes Telegraph film ciritc Robbie Collin in his review of the film.
"It stands apart from all of their previous work. Its heroine Merida – a gutsy young royal whose sheepy tangle of tousled red curls is as untameable as her spirit – is no typical Disney princess either," he said, and also called the 3D animation "outstanding".
Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman's film employs sophisticated animation technology, new software which makes flowing hair, fur, clothing and water look more realistic. According to technical staff at the studio, it took over a year to develop Merida's expressive long red locks.
Brave is the 13th Pixar feature and the first top lined by a female character.
Brave will open in UK cinemas on August 13.
