Hate Messages Painted in Northwest Omaha Neighborhood

CREATED 8:32 PM

What's usually a calm and quiet part of Omaha...

"Well I was a little taken back, it's not something that I would expect to happen in this neighborhood."

Has been targeted with hate crimes.

"It's sad in this day and age that, that happens to anybody let alone a neighborhood like ours.

Residents are rattled after two separate incidents in Northwest Omaha.

The first, police say at 98th and Redman, suspects painted this hate message on the garage door and took off crashing into a mailbox next door.

"Our mailbox was bent in half, it wasn't like that when we went to bed, but it definitely was in the morning. This was not something we expected, and this isn't something that we expect to see again"

5 days later, and 1 block away another home targeted.

A hate message drawn on the hood of this parked car.

"It's part of life unfortunately people with narrow minds do narrow things."

The Maple Village Neighborhood Association sent us this letter.

Its president believes one of the hate crimes could have a political tie.

But both yards, had signs up in support of Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing.

"Regardless of your view points, oh, someone's home, is their home. Respect it."

Neighbors love the area and they say it's safe. They don't understand why anyone would do something like this.

"It is very diverse, it's very nice, we can walk around, and nobody gets in trouble, you know you don't see anything hateful."
