Omaha, NE – As kids head back to the classroom there’s an app for that; stop bullying before it starts.

Children’s hospital has partnered up with Health Teach in spreading the word of a game app that helps with bullying.

According to a study by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, 1.6 million children in grades 6 through 10 in the United States are bullied at least once a week. So why not address the problem using something kids are all too familiar with, their phones.

In the age of social media, a child is one click away from becoming a victim of bullying. But a new game, Awesome Upstander, can help. It teaches kids to stand up to bullies by getting friends to help and showing the bully who’s the boss.

As they play through 20 levels of bully busting parents are encouraged to join in and ask open-ended questions and have their child talk about bullying issues in their school.

Psychologist, Dr. Mike Vance says the video game teaches kids how to stand up for themselves and someone else when they see a friend being bullied.

Dr. Vance says it’s important for parents to talk about why someone might be a bully.

You can also buy the app for .99 cents for your phone.
