Papillion, NE - This summer the Nebraska State Patrol is reminding drivers to put down their phones while behind the wheel.
Officers held a safety event in Papillion to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.
State Trooper Keith Bell says if you must use your phone, pull off the road to a safe place.
"What we want to ask people to do is make sure we make the right choices when we're out here driving,” said Bell. “We want to make sure we're wearing our seat belts, we want to make sure we're focused on the roads, and not our phones.”
A guest speaker who lost his daughter to distracted driving encouraged a crowd to become safer drivers.
