US and Turkey agree closer co-operation on Syria

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was speaking at a press conference after meeting with her Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutolglu.

"We have been closely coordinating over the course of this conflict, but now we need to get into the real details of such. Our intelligence services, our military have very important responsibilities and roles to play," Mrs Clinton said.

Sources close to the talks revealed that the arming of the Syrian opposition along with a no-fly zone was discussed.

Mr Davutolglu cited the Kurdish rebel group the PKK as being one of the 'terrorist groups' Turkey was trying to prevent taking advantage of any power vacuum in Syria.

Syrian refugees interviewed at a holding camp on the Turkish side of the border with Syria appeared unimpressed with the outcome of the meeting. "All the world is talking about Syria, but nothing has happened. The United States and Europe have threatened Assad but nothing has happened so far", said one man who had fled the brutal crackdown by the Assad regime.
