US election: Mitt Romney hits the campaign trail in Ohio

Beginning with a ringing criticism of President Barack Obama's efforts to resurrect the struggling US economy, Mr Romney likened the position of President to that of a football coach.

"Today twenty three million people are out of work or stopped looking for work or are under employed," he told the enthusiastic crowd. "Let me tell you, if you have a coach that's zero and twenty three million, you say it's time to get a new coach."

Ohio is a key state in the November 6 election, enjoying routine visits from Mr Romney, his vice-presidential running mate Paul Ryan and their Democratic rivals.

The Republican pair were scheduled to campaign together later Saturday at a rally in Florida.
