A family grieves the loss of a hard-working husband and father murdered Thursday night.
Omaha, NE – A family grieves the loss of a high-spirited husband and father who was murdered Thursday night while Police try to track down suspects and a motive.
28-year-old, Israel Hernandez can’t understand why anyone would kill his father a hard-working, loving man who was dedicated to his family.
63-year-old, Gilberto Hernandez- Vazquez was selling ice cream from his push cart near 19th & Y Thursday around 8:00 p.m. when he was shot in the face. Neighbors came home to find Vazquez’s body in the street.
Hernandez called his dad’s cell phone numerous times but no answer. His mother Balbina Nicolas could feel something was wrong. She urged her son to find his father.
Hernandez heard about a shooting near a south Omaha neighborhood and went online to learn what happened. He later figured out it was his very own father. Around 1:00 a.m. Friday he spoke to his dad for the very last time.
His father died at Creighton Medical Center moments after their last words.
Children and their parents continue to leave flowers and messages where the Ice Cream Man was murdered. A Facebook page is also created in his memory.
