Food Drive Brings Life Back to Local Pantry's Shelves

CREATED 11:27 AM

Omaha, NE- Pantry shelves are full again thanks to local food drive.

The Heartland Hope Mission and Hy-Vee collected $96,000 worth of food during their annual food drive. Donations came from local vendors and Hy-Vee customers.

The mission is seeing more and more people come through lately. Many are new faces who just need a little help to make ends meet.

"This food drive was crucial for us because our shelves have been really empty. Unfortunately the cost of commodities have continued to increase and that's meant we've had less donations. Unfortunately that doesn't mean there are less people in need," says Chelsea Salifou of Heartland Hope Mission.

Heartland Hope Mission supplied over 40,000 needy families with the basic necessities last year.

More donations are needed as the holiday season is coming up. Turkeys, boxes of stuffing and canned foods are needed.
