Lincoln Police Confirm Hate Crime is a Hoax

CREATED 4:16 PM

After weeks of investigatin, and thousands of dollars spent, police say Charlie Rogers' hate crime story, didn't match up.

"We aggressively investigated this, every day since this incident has happened there have been investigators working in trying to identify who these assailants were", says Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong.

White gloves, a red box cutter and zip ties were found at the scene, Rogers told police her attackers left them behind, but...

"UNMC found DNA evidence that matched Ms. Roger's inside the gloves that were left at the scene of the crime."

Police say Rogers actually went to her neighborhood Ace Hardware store and bought all 3 items.

The day after, she posted this on her Facebook wall:

"So maybe I am too idealistic but I believe way deep inside of me that we can make things better for everyone. I will be a catalyst, I will do what it takes, I will, watch me."

Police even went to a forensic pathologist for advice, who determined her injuries were self inflicted.

"The lines were too straight to be accomplished during a struggle, ands the fact that the cuts were all in areas where the victim could have inflicted them herself."

Rogers says she was held down when the cutting happened, but there was no blood on the bed spread or any sign of struggle.

Late this afternoon, her attorney said Rogers is sticking her story.

"Well she's maintained the same story throughout, that she was assaulted. And she denies the allegations, she denies that she had any complicity in this at all."
